Dytiscidae family. Body length 45–68mm. Distributed throughout Japan, except for Hokkaido. The largest aquatic insect in Japan, it uses its scythe-like forelimbs to capture frogs, loaches, and killifish, injecting digestive fluids and sucking out the liquefied flesh.
