"Trichonephila pilipes" Description
Family Nephilidae. Body length: 7–50 mm. Distributed in the Ryukyu Islands. The largest web-building spider in Japan. Constructs enormous orb webs measuring 1–2 m in diameter to capture prey. Known to catch not only insects but also bats and birds.
