Family Acrididae. Body length: 28–35 mm. Distributed from Hokkaido to the Ryukyu Islands. Found in grasslands on wastelands and riverbeds, with individuals varying in color from green to brown. Named for the mottled striped pattern—madara means "mottled"—on the hind legs of the males.
